The BTNF is a winter wonderland for cross-country and Nordic skiers
Almost 700 miles of multi-use trails are groomed across the BTNF’s six districts during the winter for use by cross-country and Nordic skiers, fat bikers, snowmobilers, and snowshoers. Of course, Nordic skiers need not limit themselves to groomed trails. A joy of cross-country skiing is putting your skis on and heading off into the landscape to explore, making sure you’re properly prepared for such an adventure and have maps, of course. At the complete opposite end of the spectrum from this are the 40 miles of groomed trails that have a set track for classic cross-country skiing.
3 Things Recreation, Wilderness Program Manager of the BTNF’s Jackson and Blackrock Ranger Districts Linda Merigliano always has with her on winter outings:
- A headlamp
- Thermos of tea
- Extra coat
